A
PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM LIZ GILLAND
Serving the people of Horry County as chairperson of the County Council
is not just a job to me -- it's personal. Horry County is my home
and
always has been. It's also the reason I became involved in government
in the first place - I was not happy with the way the people of
my county were being represented and being treated by those in
power, and I was
not pleased with some of the decisions being made. That's still
true in
too many cases, and that's why I decided to once again run for
office.
Politicians
always try to grab for the credit whenever something good is accomplished.
I'm content to say that I have been a part of many team efforts
-- public and private -- that have resulted in good things for
Horry County over the past 12 years.
Aside
from the usual political rhetoric that you hear during election
season
about lowering taxes, paving roads, raising police pay and such,
you should know what this candidate personally believes in:
~
I believe in doing my homework and being prepared to debate and
discuss every issue at meetings.
~
I believe in honest, open communication, so that the public understands
my vote on each issue.
~
I believe everyone should be treated fairly, with no one given
an advantage because of who he knows, what he's worth, or what
he can offer in return.
~ I believe every citizen should be treated with courtesy and
respect --
by Council members, by Council appointees, and by county employees.
~
I believe those who already live here should take priority over
new development, within reason.
~
I believe the public deserves the best ideas I can bring to the
table to make county government work more efficiently and effectively.
~
I believe quality of life is as important as length of life, and
should be
a high priority for local government.
~
I do not believe in political promises -- they are usually just
empty, voter-pleasing sound bites. Nevertheless, I have made the
same three promises each time I have run for office … and
I have kept them.
They may sound trite, but I know they are true.
~ I promise to work hard... play fair... and stay honest.
I
have kept those promises. I will continue to keep them.
RE-ELECT
